In my last post I discussed the mistake recruiters make by not following up with candidates who didn’t make the cut. In this week’s post I’m discussing another big mistake recruiters make – not picking up the phone to have a real conversation.
Common Mistake #5: Failing to pick up the phone to have a real conversation.
Having a real phone conversation is a must. In fact, if the candidate lives in the same town as you, you better schedule a face-to-face meeting. If a candidate doesn’t want to meet with you, pass on them. Trust me, that’s the first big red flag. Today, recruiters have technology at their finger tips. Skype, webcams and all of the other ways of seeing someone via the internet are necessary tools to use as a recruiter. You have to lay eyes on the candidate; how else will you know what your client will see? As a recruiter, you should be several steps ahead of your client interviewing your candidate. After all – that’s what they pay you for.
Check back next week for Common Mistake #6: Failing to prep your candidates for interviews.
